Among the many requests we receive, we can not forget those from long-standing customers, with whom we have established a strong professional relationship and mutual respect.

Our marketing manager has recently received a phone call from a client from Padua who owns a Kolzer machine dating back to 1961, and needed some spare parts. We were pleased we could provide him with all the required components in a very short time.

Kolzer was founded in 1952 and is internationally recognized as a supplier of vacuum Sputtering, Plasma and Metallization systems.

Pride and joy is the department of product engineering that has the experience, skills and tools for the design and production of equipment and of whole production processes.

Since a long time Kolzer manufactures PVD sputtering equipment and provide the specific know-how to produce coatings in the field of fashion accessories, footwear, clothes, leather goods, buttons and components able to adapt functionality to trend and offers exclusive finishes and colors: solutions that take into account the productive, functional, economic and design aspects.

It is narrated that during the siege of Syracuse in 213 BC, Archimedes was able to defeat the fleet of the Roman general Marcello by using the energy of the sun. With a concave mirror made of hundreds metal shields that reflected sunlight, Archimedes directed the beam of energy on the enemy’s ships that caught fire.

This is clearly a myth, since at that time technologies could not produce those effects, but simply disturb and blind the crew and therefore preventing people from taking aim. However, it is a testimony of the awareness of the sun energy potential and the concentration of its rays.

Snow White’s apple turns silver and edible: this is the last project of Kolzer and Ornella Piluso - artist and designer, Dr. Angela Bassoli of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Milan and silversmith company Silvan Srl.

PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition) is not a well known process, yet, even though it could solve many problems that companies have to face, because it allows to obtain anticorrosion transparent thin films on metals and alloys, and it’s a valid alternative to traditional anticorrosion treatments that, using chemical baths, are highly pollutant.

A revolution in the new product development by means of surfaces: a new company faces the greatest challenge with Kolzer technology. “The surrounding world is populated by products that interacts with us and the ambient through their surfaces. If we create the conditions needed to remove the constrains to utilize the same material, a significant number of innovative alternatives becomes available for the products. This is even more important as the facts of everyday life indicate the need of a radical change in our habits.” says Mario Generani, SuNaGen CEO.

In the laboratory KR&D, Kolzer’s service for the innovation and standardization, which allows to experiment on products of interested companies, new nanotechnology coatings PVD, Plasma and Sputtering (a project already joined by companies like Ferrari Car, Brembo, Illy, BTicino, De Longhi, Philips, Valeo, Banca d’Italia, Bang&Olufsen, Lavazza, Fiat, Gewiss, YKK, Vimar), today has been installed the new DGK36” HTC I-Chrome, the favourite of the DGK series.

Valuable initiative by Renault in order to manufacture car more ecological and economic for environment protection, reducing environmental impact at all stages of life cycle (manufacture, use and end of life). Designed to be reused and recycled for 95%, these cars will show the trademark "eco2″. Materials and treatments used, are clean and are becoming standardised to ELV CE Directive for the automotive.

Kolzer couldn’t miss this new opportunity and decided to create a profile on Facebook, to connect friends and companies that are working on new projects together. Also for sputtering coatings is beginning the season of winter sports. Fortex srl, a young reality in Montebelluna (TV)North Italy, protagonist of the Festival of Science 2008 of Genoa, Nanotechnologies field, owns 2 DGK36” sputtering plants, providing PVD treatments to a wide range of customers.

Despite the difficulties of the world economy, the summits of the company have improved growth estimates for 2008. The results achieved in the first half of 2008 confirm a period of strong growth for Kolzer. New installations for Beghelli in China (owners of 3 Kolzer PVD PECVD plants) for the civil and industrial lighting field and Olsa S.p.A. in Poland for the automotive lighting of Volkswagen and Audi Group.

Innovation to compete! It has been proved that companies which invest in innovative technologies are constantly growing. The result comes from an European study that has monitored companies of the old continent for the last 10 years: those which have invested in new technologies, have increased their turnover (an average of 10/15% per year).

A new dress for materials
Sputtering applied to various materials ennobles Silvan’s creations, a silverware company from Veneto - Italy, founded in 1962 ( www.silvansputtering.it ). Few months after installing a new conception sputtering plant in order to deposit precious metals, the company is witnessing a revolution in a field as closely linked to tradition as silverware is.

40 years of industrial value
400 operational DGK36” plants installed

Manufactured with craftsmanship in Milan facility, the DGK36" vacuum treatment plant may be equipped with multiple process systems: metallization, sputtering, plasma and plasma deposition. In July 2008 we delivered 5 new DGK36", which will treat various components in Brazil, Mexico, Italy and China.

Kolzer introduces new functional coatings achievable with sputtering machines series 2008. The plants, which are currently provided with an already rich databases of available coatings, can now be equipped on request with the following processes:  PVD anti-reflex, PVD transparent hydrophobic and nonsticking, PVD solar thermal absorber_low emission, PVD transparent conductive ITO, PVD transparent scratchproof , PVD UV filter, PVD IR filter 

The results of the exposures to WOM to which we have submit our customers' components in the first equipment of the automotive field, have given positive results. The exposure to WOM (water-o-meter) contemplates the exposure of the pieces to cycles of radiation, rain, humidity to simulate the weather conditions. It lasted 2000 hours (the standard required by car specifications), the results were positive on all the substrates (plastic and metal) and have shown no alteration: total absence of bubbles, blistering, cracks of the film or loss of gloss.

Kolzer will attend at SVC 2008, the 51st International Exhibition and Annual Technical Conference staging Hyatt Regency Chicago, Chicago IL , from April 19 - 24, 2008, promising to the visitors a host of new technologies and solutions for enhancing their business competitiveness in the vacuum coating solutions. Kolzer is a longstanding European member of the American Society of Vacuum Coaters SVC.

The processes of chrome plating adopted by Kolzer machines, in addition to be at zero emission, use metallic chrome, therefore "zerovalent". This is organic chrome absolutely non-polluting. Thus it is still possible to chrome for aesthetic/functional purposes, since the chrome zerovalent used by Kolzer plant, responds in full the new requirements of RoHS and ELV directives.

Completed the extension works of Kolzer production site started in Spring 2007; doubled the area intended for production, assembly and testing of sputtering plants of third generation.
Kolzer facility in Cologno Monzese, Milan, produces sputtering plants for deposition in high vacuum, high vacuum metallization plants and vacuum plasma plants. The systems are mainly exported to 30 different countries.

Positively tested a DGK63”, the biggest 3D sputtering plant in Europe. 2500 mm of length with 4 magnetrons and sputtering targets long 1800mm for the multilayer depositing on solar panels. We helped thousands of companies renew their ecological ethos, and at the same time generate immediate profits giving their products a new hi-tech appearance. Without the contribution of our sputtering process, it wouldn’t be possible to create the new generation of photovoltaic cells.

The biggest technological research centre in Scandinavia with their 900 engineers and scientists, the DTI Danish Teknological Institute located in Taastrup, Copenaghen-Denmark, started up a new Kolzer plant for PECVD process. The system will be involved in R&D and small scale production of components with the new flexible transparent barrier coating, silicon based, with a DGK24” equipped for PECVD process.

Altay Scientific is a leading company in the global market for science education. Kolzer provided them with a DGK36” sputtering plant equipped with plasma cleaning, in order to replace the galvanic process used to produce their plastic and metal component, to be installed in their factory based in China. The DGK36” is the most sold Kolzer machine, with its coating chamber diameter of 1000mm.

Medys SpA, part of Imper Group, has been working in the electro-medical industry for about one hundred years, during which they have also developed industrial activities focused on the high-quality surface treatments field. In this respect they are now ready for the start up of a new Kolzer sputtering plant for chromium plating of plastic parts; flanked by a UV painting line to prepare the parts before the sputtering coating, the new line will replace the actual galvanic process, producing for the Italian company BTicino, part of LEGRAND Group.

Kolzer Vacuum Coating Technologies, reputable and well-know manufacturer of vacuum technologies sign a new agreement with the Polytechnic of Turin for the development of industrial applications with PECVD technology. Within this year Kolzer will install a new plant in the Polytechnic of Turin, Alessandria department, a DGK36"PECVD plant for R&D and industrial investigation of future application with this process, for companies located in North Italy.

Corriere della Sera, the most important Italian newspaper, reports that a panel of ten experts nominated for “Corriere Economy” the more innovative entrepreneurs:
“Kolzer is among the first companies for its prominent role in the innovation continuity and for its progress in research and development in the Italian market; it is the typical example of the challenges to face in the 21St Century..."

After winning a notice of competition in the 70’s, Kolzer won again this year and manufactured a DGK24” plant for vacuum cadmium plating of helicopter components for AGUSTA WESTLAND – well-known worldwide manufacturer of helicopters.

Commissioned by the EU, the Kolzer staff developed a new co-evaporation system for latent fingerprints on a DGK24” for the Turkish criminal police, in order to note latent fingerprints on evidence found on crime scenes. Delivered and already up and running in order to Strengthen the Police Forensic Capacity.
